Sunscreen Lotion

Sunscreen lotion is a topical skincare product designed to protect the skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. It works primarily by either absorbing, reflecting, or scattering UV rays, depending on the type of active ingredients it contains. Sunscreens are generally classified into two categories: chemical (organic) and physical (inorganic).

Chemical sunscreens contain ingredients like avobenzone, oxybenzone, or octinoxate, which absorb UV radiation and convert it into heat. Physical sunscreens, on the other hand, use minerals like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to create a protective barrier that reflects and scatters UV rays. Sunscreen lotions are available in various SPF (Sun Protection Factor) ratings, which indicate the level of protection against UVB rays—the type responsible for sunburn and contributing to skin cancer. Broad-spectrum sunscreens offer protection against both UVA (aging and long-term damage) and UVB rays.
